Written Communication...

I have always felt that communicating via internet means extremely difficult. Trying to convey myself without the tone of my voice, hand gestures and body language and so forth, at times was hard to grasp. Reading others pears blogs, facebook and twitter posts, they seemed to be able to intuitively grasp this skill and come across as themself. I always thought I came across too formal. Is this a good thing? Or not?
